Daniel Blagg and John Hartley, Fun & Games
December 3, 2008 - January 17, 2009

Kidder Smith Gallery is exhibiting a two-person exhibition with two prominent Texas artists, John Hartley and Daniel Blagg.

Daniel Blagg:
Daniel Blagg doesn't travel far to find material. "Many of my subjects are within a few blocks of my studio," says the artist, whose warehouse workspace is in an industrial district in Fort Worth, TX. "I am drawn to neglected areas that are in a state of limbo. For me, they have an element of something that's very ordinary, very American." The Texas native uses techniques of photorealism to depict symbols of urban blight: abandoned buildings, derelict gas stations, and empty streets. Blagg tries to elevate the mundane. Blagg's daytime scenes drawn. The imagery that Blagg uses is so familiar that one cannot help but be drawn in by these everyday scenes.
